Merit pay doesn’t merit serious consideration

In spite of Ontario Liberal’s silence on the subject, merit pay for teachers is something that could happen here. In BC one of the contenders for leadership of the provincial party is running with this as a main plank in his platform. Barack Obama, who is driving Republicans wild with his rampant socialism (as in medicare) is firmly in favour of paying teachers more money if their students’ test scores improve. Any teacher in a poor neighbourhood would be penalized as would those who teach the more privileged kids whose scores are already high. To read the latest from the Globe and Mail, click here.
